Product Details

Crochet with natural colour - Introducing a collaboration between Black Isle Yarns and Forest and Dot for our Local Dye and Crochet experience.

In this one-day workshop we will introduce you to the wonderful world of natural plant dyeing and experience hands-on how to dye your own yarn with locally gathered plants. You will then use this beautiful yarn to create a memory from your day by crocheting a cowl designed exclusively for the workshop. The design is inspired by the Scottish plant dyes we will be using during the workshop. Enjoy a unique workshop experience between two small local businesses.

Set in the beautiful grounds of Brodie castle, just a short stroll from the car park you will arrive at the stables where you will be warmly greeted by Sophie and Julie. Settle in with a hot drink and a chance to browse Julie’s plant dyed yarn samples. We will start the morning with our journey into natural plant dyeing. Hear about how Julie works with local sheep farmers to create the bases for her yarn, her favourite plants to gather and her passion for naturally dyed yarns. You’ll then get to experience plant dyeing your own mini skeins of yarn which can be used in your project. Julie will teach all the steps so that you can be confident to try your hand at natural dyeing at home (and will provide a copy of her Natural Dyeing with Gathered Plant Material tutorial).

After lunch, you’ll be introduced to Sophie’s exclusively designed crochet cowl/ scarf pattern. You will be guided every step of the way to create your beautiful plant dyed project. You will learn the pretty stitch that makes up the design and is inspired by the gorse flowers in which the yarn is dyed from. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon of crocheting your new project accompanied by tea and cake and of course good chat! A unique heritage craft experience!
